Content has been dethroned

There is a really interesting discussion at 3by9 about content not being king, although it has been touted as such for some time now. (I believe people may even have whole blogs dedicated to the topic alone). Instead, personality takes the throne. I especially love Derek’s response that it’s all about relationships, and Lea’s followup with the Royal Court of Appeals. It’s interesting to think about, and a lot more exciting to realise that it’s all about relationships and personality. Isn’t that much more interesting than the same articles/stories being written by the same people and then regurgitated by the next group?

Personality is so important to creating good content, and I think a core part of that is being honest about your personality (this goes into a whole new topic of online persona’s, anonymity and all that entails of course, but that is for another day). People read blogs because the content is interesting. People follow blogs, because the author is interesting. There is a lot to think about here and how it feeds into your business and brand. Hmmmmm.

I think this right here nails it. I have found that ever since I put more focus on getting my personality into my writing that almost all topics are more enjoyable to write about and it begins to show. Being honest really is the hardest part because sometimes you wish to show a different personality to the web audience than the one that really makes you, well you.

Thanks for the writeup Lorissa.

For the most part I like to think that I choose to read and follow a blog because of the content itself but at the same time there’s other blogs that I frequent and not for the same reason. The blogger can be ranting about anything but it’s the deliver I guess in which the topic at hand is given, that gets me coming back. Sounds weird I think.

@Scrivs - Absolutely. Yeah, I agree the honesty part is very difficult at times. Heck, people can’t always be honest with themselves, let alone with the entire web.

@Jorge - Doesn’t sound weird at all. Content is definitely a huge part of it, the Queen as others have said, but as you mention, it’s the delivery of the topic that can keep you coming back. That delivery is due to the personality of the author. I’m with you on that entirely.
